How to add a feature request
- Read these instructions all the way through before you start editing.
- Check that it really is a new feature. Check implemented feature requests and feature requests dropped, as great minds tend to thing alike.
- Add a new item at the bottom of the list below.
- Use square brackets around the title of your feature request to create a hyperlink to a new page.
- Make sure your request does not have the same name as a previous feature request.
- If you did all this right and saved the page, the list will now have a new red item at the bottom. Red means that the page doesn't exist yet.
- Now click on the new item you created, and you will be taken immediately to an editing page where you can start writing the page for your feature request.
- Write in the details of your new feature request (as the new page) and save it.
- If you are lucky, then in the course of time your page will be updated with news and responses from our developers, and comments from other users. To ensure that you are informed about comments added to your request page:
- Put the your new request page on your watchlist.
- Set your preferences so that you are emails whenever watched pages are changed.
- Always sign your comments with ~~~~

Requested features already implemented
See Implemented feature requests where most older requests are archived. More recent responses just below.
- Printing flashcards
- In Version 2.5.0 a flashcard learning system was introduced. It does not print - instead it all happens on the screen. I think this is better than what was originally requested. --McCormack 12:46, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Request a BATCH DELETE of Media resources in the Quiz Maker.--Hadassah 05:05, 25 November 2007 (GMT)
- Visual display of which questions have been asked and which not (assuming randomised tests where not every question is shown every time)
- Implemented in the flashcard activity type in version 2.5.0. --McCormack 12:49, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Visual display of which data table items have appeared in a quiz, and which not. Percentage of items tested should also be displayed.
- Implemented in the flashcard activity type in version 2.5.0. --McCormack 12:49, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Quiz player can access non-Qedoc quiz libraries
- An experimental service was introduced in December 2008 which addresses this issue. Commercial users can now receive a URL (similar to the web-launch URL's for public modules) for private launching of their modules within their own (possibly protected) websites. --McCormack 12:52, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Requested features in the process of implementation
- Automatic java installation for web launching of quizzes: when launching the online player, users without java do not know it's necessary and are not prompted. Launching should prompt users to download java. Megiddo
- Customisation of certificates / Improvements to printed results - scheduled for version 2.?.
- Automatic picture/photo resizing in Quiz Maker: an option for automatic sizing (DPI and length/width adjustment). Automatic pic resizing like myspace, flickr. Megiddo
- Implementation of automatic image resizing is slowly being implemented across different parts of the software. Resizing is partly context-determined. For example, images inserted into comboboxes shouldn't be higher than about 32 pixels for very practical display reasons; images in drag-and-drop exercises should exceed 150x100.
- CJK compatibility improvements
- Internationalisation is a constant theme in almost all updates. McCormack 09:29, 25 September 2007 (GMT)
Requests not yet acted on
Please add you request to the bottom of the list. Note that the order of the list does not reflect priority. Requests further down the list may be acted on sooner, especially if they are easy. If you see your request already here, you can still create or edit the page describing the request.
- Export of existing questions and answers to CVS (not: datatables, that already exists in user friendly way)
- Permit data table variables as categories / Create categories from data table fields
- Sort features in Quiz Player's Module Loader sort ALL online modules: In the Quiz Player users can specify records per page (20, 30, 50, 10, 150, 200). The sort features for selecting which quiz to load should sort ALL the modules on ALL the pages, not just those on the displayed page. Add module sub-category to module properties users can sort by (currently: Title, Author, Q's, Rating, Levels, ID, Description). Megiddo
- Preserve capitalisation in filtered gapfill tasks.
- Support case sensitivity in Gapfill: Currently, capitalized gapfill words appear in lower case in the drop down menu. See example
- Easier quiz launching - Add this text to the description template of how to LAUNCH modules: "IMPORTANT NOTE: In order to Launch the quiz, you MUST have JAVA installed on your machine. Download it from: http://java.com/download/index.jsp". Note: the java page automatically redirects to a localized download page written in the user's likely native language. Megiddo
- Support upload 2nd media item/stimulus - Add another intructions-to-learner (following-text) field in the response tab for a question. room for further details about the question. Megiddo
- In planning. -- McCormack 10:50, 13 August 2007 (GMT)
- I would like to suggest additional question types of "Dot to Dot" activity and a "Crossword puzzle" activity. This can be done beyond 2.0. Thank you very much.
- Crossword puzzles are in long-term planning already. A join-the-dots activity sounds like a great idea, especially as it builds on a feature already in the pair-matching exercises. McCormack 06:05, 19 August 2007 (GMT)
- Player list in QEDOC player is currently sorted in the order of when they are added or when they are last used. If there is 100 player, it would be hard to find the name. Therefore, I think it might be better if QEDOC player sort the player based on their name instead. Ayla 03:58, 23 August 2007 (GMT)
- You are correct that the player manager was never intended for more than small number of people using the same computer. If you wish to have 100's of users per computer, then a combo box is no longer a suitable control - a sortable table would be required. McCormack 04:18, 23 August 2007 (GMT)
- Feedback options for all type of question. Currently, it is only available in multiple choice. Ayla 7:00, 3 September 2007 (GMT)
- Add 'Presentation' question type to question creation filter options. It is a top level question category of its own, and is currently hard to find. Megiddo 2:34, 5 September 2007 (PST)
- Allow changing the target folder of installaton and to separate installations of programmes (with/without JRE). Create downloading packs with and without JRE. Ial 01:23, 13 September 2007 (GMT)
- As of version 2.6.0, the installation scripts have been repaired to allow different installation destinations. The JRE will remain. --McCormack 15:14, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
- Drag and drop into "hot spots". Is it possible to add a Drag and Drop feature of either text or image into hotspots defined on an image? Hadassah
- Hotspot tasks are a long-term target. McCormack 05:21, 1 November 2007 (GMT)
- Drag and drop gapfil - I would also like to request that this question type supports Right to Left text as well. It works beautifully for LTR languages. Thank you. Hadassah
- Adding RTL support to gapfills would be especially difficult. McCormack 05:21, 1 November 2007 (GMT)
- Custom email module or level results - email to author works very very well, why not add email to self/parent/teacher/tutor/etc. feature? Megiddo
- Use_as_Screenshot or Take_Screenshot button in Quiz Maker - Screenshots are really useful, and seem under-used. It's nice to see what a module looks like before (installing)/downloading/launching. Next to the 'email' button, there could be another button which allows users to use the preview of a question as a screen shot. It could allow a maximum of 4 previews. After clicking 'make screenshot' for a 5th time, the author would be prompted to replace one of the existing 4 screenshots. The screenshots should just be auto-sized and of the preview of the question, exactly as it looks in the main window of the Quiz Maker. Wiki updated automatically? Megiddo
- Good idea. I've been thinking about taking automatic screenshots to enhance cataloguing for some time. Still working on the concept. --McCormack 17:44, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- As well as a fixed introductory page to a random quiz, it should be possible to define a fixed final page, such as a thank you page. (Stephen Bradd, Feb 2009)
- Keyboard Shortcuts to navigate in QuizPlayer - (Left arrow=back, enter=done, right arrow=next). --Jbutler 2/26/09
- Sounds sensible. Now was there a reason I didn't do this before? Possibly. Most of the keystrokes are already reserved- For example, when you have text entry fields in the response, keystrokes like arrows and enter key mean something else. The issue is which key combinations or strokes should fulfill this function. --McCormack 05:17, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Perhaps we could utilize the abovelymentioned keystrokes, but with CTRL+, like on your MC options. (We should also invent the word "abovelymentioned.")

- Clone Multiple button - It can be a headache having to hit the clone button 35 times for each variable-based question I want repeated in flashcards or quiz. Clone Multiple would prompt me to enter in a multiplier. The button could be hidden as a drop down and "flyout" from underneath the "Clone" button. It would also be nice to be able to clone more than one highlighted question. --Jbutler 2/26/09
- This might be an issue with how you are designing modules. I couldn't work out why you needed 360 question templates in a flashcard modules. Theoretically 1 or 2 is enough. Perhaps we should discuss this. --McCormack 05:22, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Upgraded MC Gap fill with text -
- Gap fill options should support HTML tags,
- Allow me to add more than four horizontal options for a greater number of distractors,
- Allow me to specify text wrapping within the question, so my text isn't so cramped in the player.
- --Jbutler 2/26/09
- The HTML tags ideas was investigated very thoroughly (as it easy to add) and there was a big issue with layout design - especially calculation of layout - i.e. HTML was omitted here for what seemed to be very good reasons at the time. However if I remember correctly, the HTML break tag is recognized, so that you can specify your own line breaks and supply your own text "wrapping" when the software's idea about this doesn't seem so good. --McCormack 05:22, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- However: there is, nevertheless, partial HTML support, as follows. --McCormack 06:01, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
- To format choices and other contents of gaps, when you add your HTML tags, add them into the cell, not the text, and preface your tags with <html>.
- To format the normal text of a gapfill, remember that each gap marker cancels all tags which have gone before - i.e. start your tags again after each gap, and don't hope to be able to format across gap markers.
- Insertable tags to reference media resources - so little pictures or animations can be inserted within the text itself, not just in a separate box or other limited locations. --Jbutler 2/26/09
- i.e. something like a wiki markup parser. Might be an idea. Personally I like the idea of supporting wiki-style templates, which data table variables and magic words to some extent already allow. --McCormack 05:25, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Flash Card Deck Module type - a larger scale flash card tool, which would automatically organize enormous bodies of data into smaller chunks of specifiable size, present and review the data in pieces, and comprehensively track memory progress across the scale of the entire project, rather than just within one activity. It would be ideal for projects where an enormous amount of information was in need of memorization, and individual flash card projects would prove ineffective farther down the line to reinforce weaker material tested in earlier activities. --Jbutler 2/26/09
- Results Data Analysis Tool - A step beyond results emailing, it would allow authors to track data trends, accuracy, and progress of any password-savvy users taking their modules. --Jbutler 2/26/09
- In planning. --McCormack 05:25, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- Default Choice for MC gapfill with drop down - So the educator can purposefully insert a specific word to display in the box when the question is generated(such as a category name or distractor option), rather than displaying it as blank by default. The "default" box could also allow the educator to specify Right or Wrong, so students will have to evaluate whether or not they need to change the displayed option, as some displays can be set to Correct. --Jbutler 3/07/09
- Find/Replace for Activity Titles - Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but I've never had any luck get find/replace to affect my activity titles. Can this be done? --Jbutler 4/06/09
- Column or Group Labels Activity - I often group activities together in single module and I would like a way to spacially separate groups of activities, either by titles or boxes or both. --Jbutler 4/06/09
- Quiz activities which use data tables should have an option whereby, so far as possible, data table items are used once only during an activity. This has been requested by a number of authors. --McCormack 11:43, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- Failed questions asked again
- First answer area selected by default in Quiz Player in gapfil/cloze question, so you don't need to use the mouse and can directly type an answer.
- Done button selected by default in Quiz Player, so there is no need to use the mouse. The user can validate his answer just by striking the return key on his keyboard.
- Please make it easier to change the numbering or order of questions when writing instead of having to retype all the question numbers. (Matthew Tse)
- Please include a html dictionary for those who aren't well versed in html and don't have access to internet. It cna get very tedious having to figure out how to write bullet points etc in html using the internet. (Matthew Tse)
- Please make it possible for some questions to have to follow one another but others to occur randomly within the same activity. (Matthew Tse)
- Idea: could be implemented in future by adding an "R"-flag in the list of ordered question numbers which directs the software to add a random question at a certain point; likewise Rxx-yy could direct the software to select a random question from range of questions or RCname_of_category could direct the software to add a random question from a particular category in an otherwise order list of questions. --McCormack 06:48, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
- In the multiple choice gap fill with text (where each gap has its own set of distractors) please ensure the order of the \'GAPs\' CANNOT be altered. (Matthew Tse)
- This probably refers to the way the Quiz Maker edits (i.e. inconsistent numbering when gaps are deleted while editing), not the way the Quiz Player presents. --McCormack 06:48, 6 November 2010 (UTC)
- Please allow some questions to selectively have multiple chances or lives within one activity (I know some question types already have this option but open it to all question types). That is, would it be possible to allow specific questions in an activity to have \'lives\' and the rest to have only one chance? (Matthew Tse)

- HTML deployment of quizzes
- The JNLP or java-web-start launch option is considered to be very much better than HTML. For those who like HTML, one can export the most common question types to Moodle XML format and then play them as HTML quizzes in Moodle. At the current time I doubt we will go further down this path, as Qedoc is about a rich interactive quiz experience which HTML alone cannot offer. --McCormack 12:58, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- LaTeX / Math Symbols integration
- MathType Support copy and paste of math notation from 3rd party equation editors. It would be easy to facilitate formula writing if users can simply copy and paste equations, fractions, formulas, etc. from the clipboard. There is a great math editor add-on for Windows or Mac called MathType [[1]]. I'm sure there are others. Megiddo
- There are many equation editors out there which can create images of equations quite quickly (even Wikipedia does it), so the recommended method is to use an equation editor to get an image of the equation you want. Then enter the image into the Qedoc Quiz Maker. We do not currently plan to directly support Latex due to cost, time and low level of need considering images can be used. --McCormack 13:01, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

- More stats on users - Emailed quiz results look great, and authors may want to know more stats about module takers, such as their city/country. Megiddo
- This is a privacy issue. Cannot be done, as it is unethical. --McCormack 17:47, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- Expanded user trending - Ask more about users, such as age, city, school, goals, all optional, so this can be shared with authors upon quiz submission. Megiddo

- What about having this option when one purchases Qedoc for closed-circuit use, i.e. a private school or company? It would be useful to be able to use the modules privately as assessments, and to be able to track who completed which module, with what accuracy, and in how much time. --Megiddo
- In "closed-circuit" use, one should still nevertheless minimize the data held to the essentials needed to identify the student to their teacher and institution. --McCormack 17:37, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
