The WYSIWYG display is a major feature of the Qedoc Quiz Maker. It means you can simultaneously edit and view the results as the learner will see them. There is no playing around with switching between displays or applications.

Previewing questions

When you create questions, the Qedoc Quiz Maker will normally switch to the question bank display. However if you hit one of the preview buttons, the main display will switch to the the player display. You can continue editing the question using the editing area, and hit the preview button every time you want to update the view with your edits.

This is true WYSIWYG editing. In fact it's more than that, because it's not just the appearance that matches, but also the interactivity. The player display offers an exact and interactive preview of what the end-user will get on their screen.

While previewing questions, a navigation bar will show in the player display. You can use this to navigate backwards and forwards through the questions, editing them as you go. The player display will remain exactly synchronized with the question bank table. You can also switch to and fro between the player display and the question bank without "losing" anything.

Previewing assessments

The player display can also be used for previewing assessments. To access assessment previews, activate the "run" menu from the menubar, or use the module explorer to switch to assessment view. The player is fully interactive, and you can click your way through the same sequence of introductory and testing screens that an end-user would see. Questions will be marked and reviewed just as in the final thing.

Assessment previews and question bank previews may look similar, but there are subtle differences.

  • An assessment preview will display only the questions in a selected level. It may display these in a randomised order. It will remember your actions as you navigate backwards and forwards through the test. The editing area will allow editing of the level definitions.
  • A question bank preview loads all the questions into a single sequence, which is the same order as the question bank itself. Although you can interact with a question and have it marked, as soon as you preview another question, your previous response will be forgotten. The editing area will allow editing of the individual questions.

Limitations on previewing assessments: if you are a free user, this feature only works for smaller modules. The idea of allowing free use is that you share your modules (by uploading them) before using them.

Previewing other things

The player display will also show the welcome screen and presentations. Access these by clicking on the appropriate parts of the module explorer tree.

Interactive controls on the player display

Most of the controls on the player display are active and have the same function as they do in the Qedoc Quiz Player. However some controls are rendered inactive for reasons of common sense. For example, user management (adding and creating users for multi-player mode) is not active. If a player control does not work in preview mode, it's probably a feature, not a bug.
