Modifications to questions types
- Anagrams: the letter button size and style can now be changed using the general font settings for the response.
- Hangman (mystery word): the letter button size and style can now be changed using the general font settings for the response; the editor interface for this question type has been tidied up.
- Typed responses (short textfields)
- Alternative answers can now be separated by pipes as well as commas. There is a new editor control for this option.
- A case-sensitivity option has been added. Previously case-sensitivity was handled at a global level (quiz options). Now it can be set at the question level (response options).
- If a virtual keyboard is used for typing the answer, the size and style of the buttons can now be changed using the general font settings for the response.
- If feedback for the question is longer, this is now line-wrapped, with automatic detection of the appropriate wrapping width.
- Gapfills: a bug was fixed so that data table variables can once again be used with this question type.
- Pair matching with check tables: when text is used for column and row titles, the font can now be changed using the general font settings for the response.
- Essay question type (free text response): a learner's answer can now be included in the print-out of the quiz results. See quiz printing. This allows a learner to submit their free text responses (on paper) for manual assessment.
Deployment
The new version features major additions for more convenient launching of quizzes.
- JNLP deployment: a version of the Qedoc Quiz Player which allows direct web launching of quizzes is now available. This is in addition to the desktop application for playing quizzes. As this technology assumes the presence of Java 1.5 of higher on a computer, we have also released HTML sample code for automatic detection and installation of the appropriate java VM.
- Click-and-start: it is now possible to export modules to a new QAF format (QAF = Qedoc Autolaunch Format). If you click on a QAF file, it will automatically load into the Qedoc Quiz Player. This works similarly to many other data format types - e.g. if you click on a DOC file, it will launch and load into Microsoft Word. Assuming a computer is correctly set up, a hyperlink on a web page to a QAF file can also cause the file to load straight into any already installed version of the Qedoc Quiz Player. Note that this is a very different technology from the JNLP deployment described above, which does not require prior installation of the Qedoc Quiz Player.
Internationalisation
- The Dutch and French language packs have been updated.
- The font support changes to a large range of question types (see above) means that CJK and other non-Roman scripts (e.g. Arabic, Greek, Hebrew, Cyrillic) can be applied to these question types.
Player management
A large number of ergonomic changes have been made to the player management system, including improvements and bigfixes.
- The number of available player icons (avatars) has been increased from 47 to 70.
- The player icons are now displayed all at once to choose from, rather than in a scrolling control. This makes the full choice much more visible to the player.
- Large format previews of the player icons are now used.
- The player icon used on the main interface of the Qedoc Quiz Player has been enlarged.
- When player profiles are chosen on the login screen, the main interface of the Qedoc Quiz Player updates faster and more reliably.
- Bugs with selecting, creating and deleting player profiles have been fixed.
Further changes
- If a module only has one quiz level, the Qedoc Quiz Player no longer shows a menu of available quizzes, but instead launches the single level immediately.
- If no contact details have been specified, the "contact at" line disappears.
- The media bank now uses the correct contributor name when a 2nd contributor adds media items to an existing module.
- A bug in the media bank has been worked-around where, if the contents of the media bank were sorted by column using clicks on the column headers, information would be wrongly assigned to images ("scrambling" of data).
- The data table interface has been substantially simplified. It is now assumed that table editing will be done in a separate application, because applications such as Excel or Word are much better designed for maintaining and editing tables. The table editing features have been removed. The Qedoc Quiz Maker now simply allows import and export of finished tables. Tables can be updated simply by overwriting them with a new import.
- The menu option in the Qedoc Quiz Player for viewing the text of module licences has now been implemented.
